YOUNG JAMAICA, led by a stroke-filled century from Nickey Samuels, dominated the opening day's play of their first-round Red Stripe Cricket Championship match against Westmoreland at Allan Rae Oval yesterday.

Samuels, a student at STETHS, slammed 124 in Young Jamaica's 376.

The former national Under-15 representative, who struck 16 fours and one six, was well supported by his fellow schoolmate Damion Ebanks who made 89.

Ebanks, who kept wicket in last year's one-day version of the regional Youth tournament, hit 17 fours and one six.

Captain Jamie Trenchfield, 36, Ziggy Levy, 25, Richard Thomas, 22, and Dennis Bulli, 19 not out, also chipped in with useful contributions.

Jamaica fast bowler Evon McInnis, who took 5-51 and Samuels, thanks to his century, have already won themselves $5,000 for their efforts.

In reply, Westmoreland were 32 without loss. Zaniffe Fowler, 14, and Dwayne Ewart, seven, will resume for demoted Westmoreland this morning.
