Yes, we are listening
published: Monday | April 4, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN LAST week's Sunday Gleaner there was a brilliantly written column by Herbert Lewis entitled 'Is anybody listening?' Yes sir, we are listening. The devastation of human potential due to crime and social decay is here. We are faced with no other choice but to invest in the children.

I am a little timid to say early childhood education, because it has become a household word without proper understanding of what it is.

Jamaica's Children (JAMCHIL) is a newly-formed non-profit organisation with a mandate to help pilot the transformation of the society through widespread training of persons in Early Childhood Education and Special Needs Education with a current focus on Autism.

PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

What is that? JAMCHIL will be embarking on public education campaigns, to alleviate the chronic ignorance of our people about quality early childhood development and special needs. As Mr. Herbert Lewis said, 'The primary objective of any education or training is for a better life.'

We are commissioned to offer Jamaica's future treasures a better life. I am sure that visionaries in the private sector will see that it makes much sense to invest now and live well later. JAMCHIL has listened and are making giant steps to finding solutions.

I am, etc.,

JEROME KING (Ms)
