Daraine Luton, Freelance WriterTivoli A delivered well on a promise made by defender Kasey Evering when they lost the JNBS Open League to Jamalco.
Then a tearful Eveing, who is also a national senior player, said: "Tivoli A will be back with a vengeance."
On Saturday they made a super start to their Berger Senior League title hunt by winning the league Rally, beating Omega 5-4 in the final at the Leila Robinson Courts.
After topping their group in the preliminary stages of the competition, the west Kingston side fought all the way for the season's first title.
In their successful campaign, Tivoli brushed aside sister team Tivoli B 7-5 in the quarter-final but were made to work overtime in the semi-final by Waulgrovians A. Both Tivoli A and Waulgrovians A played to a 4-4 full-time scoreline before Tivoli broke free in overtime to win 7-6, thereby securing their berth in the final.
STOPPED JETSETTERS A
At that stage they were joined by Omega, who first stopped Jetsetters A 7-4 in the quarter-final and then beat Senior League champs Jamalco 6-5 in their semi-final game.
Last year's winners Windalco failed to advance past the preliminary round.
Meanwhile, the Senior League gets going tomorrow at the Leila Robinson Courts with defending champions Jamalco shooting off against Seneca A at 5:45 and Police A facing Tivoli B, also at 5:45. Tivoli A will not taste action until Thursday when they face off against Alpha A. Two other games will be played on Thursday. These will be Jetsetters A against Waulgrovians A and Windalco against Molynes United A.
