The right to know
published: Wednesday | April 6, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

DAWN RITCH writes in her column of April 3 that the leak of information to the press on the NSWMA scandal was politically motivated.

This may be a case of people doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Turning on your colleague to score political points is reprehensible.

However, the public is entitled to know what is going on at the agency and it does not matter where the information is coming from, as long as it can be verified.

If the minister was derelict in her duties, this should be made known to the public, regardless of what is happening in the PNP leadership race.

I hope Ms. Ritch was not implying that the minister should be given a break because of her position in the race and the poll numbers.

I am, etc.,

R. TAYLOR
