A campaign for love
published: Wednesday | April 6, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

JAMAICA NEEDS a positive show of love love for each other, especially the young and vulnerable.

If this is ignored, there will be no end to crime and violence, hate, disrespect, lost values and the endless list of negatives that are affecting us today and will lead to a worst tomorrow.

May I suggest that our 'talented Jamaicans', at all levels, put aside one week for outreaching deejays, sportsmen and women, church leaders, politicians, professors, lawyers, doctors, business people, teachers, media personnel, hoteliers, etc.

For one week, from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, selected areas of need should be visited crime-ridden areas, schools, trade centres, street corners and zinc fence communities. We need interaction and fulfilment of identified needs where possible, a serious show of love.

Let us for this week each contribute a week's salary towards these needs.

This will then be continued for one day, each week, for one year, each contributing a day's pay. It's worth a try.

This could be an appropriate project for the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica. Let us lead by example for Jamaica and the future.

I am, etc.,

RICHARD TOYLOY
