THE JAMAICA Tourist Board (JTB) yesterday kicked off a series of activities to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The JTB was established on April 1, 1955.
At a press conference held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in New Kingston, Paul Pennicook, director of tourism, explained the JTB's plans for the year-long celebration.
Among the planned activities, are an exhibition at the Tourism Centre on Knutsford Boulevard on April 8, which will highlight the JTB's advertising campaigns as well as its history.
Scheduled for May 3, a Careers in Travel and Tourism Expo will offer those interested in working in the industry, the opportunity to network and learn more about the sector through demonstrations and information booths.
In September, volunteers of the Meet-the-People programme will be honoured for their commitment and excellence as ambassadors for Jamaica. In October, the Blue Mountain Awards will recognise top trade partners in North America, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Germany. Also in October, a 50th Anniversary Golf Invitational will coincide with the annual Celebrity Players Tournament.
