JAMAICA PULLED off a thrilling one-run victory over the undefeated Windward Islands in their CLICO West Indies Under-15 at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couvain yesterday.
The Jamaicans batted first and led by a superb unbeaten 113 from Courtney Allen, totalled a challenging 207 for three in 45 overs.
Allen innings contained 17 fours off 129 balls and he shared in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 141 with Adrian Morris who scored 49 off 89 balls with two fours.
The Windwards had good scores from allrounder Dalton Polius (37) and lower-order batsman Dilorn Johnson (34) and stayed in contention to preserve their 100 per cent record in the series.
Needing 11 runs in the final over, the last pair of Oscar George and Elton Joseph panicked going for the winning run, which resulted in the former being run out.
The final round of championship matches will take place on Friday when Trinidad and Tobago and the Windwards clash to determine the champions.
Meanwhile, defending champions Barbados won their last competitive match with a hard-fought three-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands.
Playing at the Inshan Ali Park, Barbados limited the Leewards to 154 for six in 46 overs and then rattled up 157 for seven in 44.3 overs to win comfortably in the end.
In the Leewards innings, Keron Powell top scored with 55 off 92 balls, which included two fours and one six, while a solid contribution came from opener Chesney Hughes with 30.
GOOD SCORES
In reply, the Bajan youngsters, led by good scores from Peter Clarke (38), Renaldo Layne (33) and Aubrey Towler (28), reached their target with nine balls to spare. Towler was named Man-of-the-Match after taking one for 21 from nine overs in the Leewards innings.
In the two-day development match at Gilbert Park, unbeaten Trinidad and Tobago received their sternest test to date playing against Guyana.
The Guyanese boys, led by a solid century from left-handed opening batsman Norwayne Frederick, tallied 288 for six in 89 overs against the local team. Frederick lashed 108 off 176 balls in 232 minutes including 18 fours.
He shared in an enterprising second-wicket partnership of 156 in 141 minutes with Delon Heliger who hit a robust 64 off 99 balls with eight fours.
Skipper Kjorn Ottley, with 2-42, and pacer Marlon Briceno, 2-51, were the leading bowlers for Trinidad. The match continues today.
