Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival was superb and biggest yet
published: Thursday | April 7, 2005

There was an abundance of colour in the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival road parade. Here one of the more beautiful costumes led the Supreme Ventures float.

THE 2005 SUPREME Ventures Jamaica Carnival came to a tremendous end on Sunday April 3 with a grand road parade and concert at the National Stadium car park. For the very first time in Jamaica the road parade drew well over 50,000 revellers and the Last Hurray fete witnessed a capacity crowd of over 100,000. Title sponsors Supreme Ventures Limited had one of the most eye-catching floats in the parade, aptly called 'The old woman and a shoe' which captured the experience of an old woman who won the lotto and now lives in a posh new shoe home.

Alongside the float were two Pick 3, Lotto and Cash Pot trucks which bore the logos of Jamaica's most popular games for all to see. Each truck came well equipped with its own music, adding flavour and fun to the road parade. The Supreme Ventures team 'Envy' was all decked out in colourful costumes and led the procession from the Liguanea Prep School to the National Stadium. Two impressive Kia vehicles, the Cerato and Sorento led the carnival road parade for the entire duration and paved an obstacle free course for the event.

Of significant note as well were the b-mobile float and music truck. Like last year, b-mobile brought back its music truck which featured live performances by artistes such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Wayne Marshall and Trinidad's Machel Montano throughout the road march. Another impressive float, the b-mobile float was almost always full of partygoers and dancers in colourful b-mobile attire.

Byron Lee, in his capacity as chief organiser, had a large following behind his truck as he played some of the best soca hits much to the delight of the jumping crowd. After travelling all across Jamaica and bringing carnival to all the nooks and crannies, Byron Lee said he was extremely pleased with this year's Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival and admitted that this was the biggest road march he had ever seen. He had much praise for the sponsors and said that each sponsor brought its own energy and vibe to the event.

The festivities culminated in a magnificent show with performances by comedians Ity, Blacka Ellis and Fancy Cat, the b-mobile artistes including one of the America's top hip hop acts Doug E Fresh, Alaine Laughton, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires among many others. With continued shouts and cheers it was evident that the crowd was enjoying every minute of the concert, artiste after artiste the audience was treated to hits from a number of different genres of music such as hip hop, soca, reggae and dancehall.

These happenings just put the finishing touches on an extremely successful day and a massively entertaining Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival.
