THE EDITOR, Sir:FOR MANY years, we have
witnessed the steady deterioration in the conduct of carnival
revellers, both on stage and
during the road march.
The very first costumed group to appear on stage last Sunday was extremely lewd and those that followed, seemed hell bent on outdoing their predecessors in terms of vulgarity
It is time for this nonsense to stop and if these people do not know how to conduct themselves with some propriety, then this poor excuse for entertainment, should no longer be brought
into our living rooms via the
television.
The newspapers have given further credence to this lewdness by plastering obscene photos across their pages. How can we wonder about the decline in morality and standards in our country if the media only glorifies the worst possible behaviour?
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, we urge you to take your role in nation-building more
seriously and it starts in simple ways, such as not broadcasting or highlighting the worst in us.
We are sowing the seeds of our own destruction when we give pride of place to the coarse and ugly side of our people.
