Bolt wins on return to track
published: Monday | April 11, 2005

Bolt

FORMER NATIONAL 200-metre champion Usain Bolt made an impressive return to the track at the weekend's Seminole Invitational at the Mike Long Track Complex in Tallahassee, Florida.

In his first race since last Summer's Athens Olympic Games, Bolt, the World Junior 200m record holder, raced to a comfortable 20.51 seconds victory in the men's 200m.

The 18 year old, who broke the World Junior Record (WJR) he jointly held with American Roy Martin at last year's Carifta Games in Bermuda when he ran 19.93 seconds, beat local boy Jimmie Hackey (20.83) into second place.

There were two other Jamaicans in the 200m event. Sheldon Morant (21.08) placed third while national 400m champion Brandon Simpson, running for Adidas, was sixth fastest in 21.49.

Hackey raced away with the men's 100m in 10.33, leaving Morant (10.43) and Brent Mobley of Florida (10.51) in his wake.

DOUBLE WINNER

Meanwhile, Jamaican Kerrian Stewart was a double winner at the Clemson Invitational, held at the Clemson University Track & Field Rock Norman Track.

Representing St. John's University, Stewart, who is conditioned locally by Steven Francis, won the women's 200m in 23.94, beating Georgia's Yendy Gilchrist (24.02) and Clemson's Randi Hinton (24.15).

In the 400m Stewart, a former University of Technology (UTech) student, won in NCAA regional qualifying 54.18. Gilchrist (55.10) and Jasmine Dixon of Georgia (55.86) finished second and third respectively.
