Hyde
UNLESS HE is fished in by a premier league club, Jamaica's midfielder Micah Hyde will have to wait a while before he is able to play top flight football in England again.
In fact, since Watford's demotion from the EPL in 2001, the Jamaican midfielder has not experienced any play in the big league. He now plays in the English Championship League with Burley.
Hyde started playing professional football at Cambridge United in 1993 but after four years at that club he transferred to Watford in 1997. And not only was he a stand-out at Watford, but he also played an integral role in Watford gaining promotion to the English Premier League in 2000. He would later make the journey with his side the next season though.
Born in Newham, England to Caribbean parents Jamaican and Trinidadian Hyde grew up on a steady diet of football.
From as early as age 19 he was playing 'big man' football, being drafted as a trainee by Cambridge in 1993.
When he inked a three-year contract with Burley in July last year, the club manager, Steve Cotterill, expressed his confidence in the player's ability to deliver the goods.
"I'm delighted to have signed Micah. He's a terrific midfielder, a great leader, good experience and a good age at 29. He is a very good player and we're pleased to add him to our team. He's a good character, very determined and he's a winner," Cotterill was quoted as saying on Soccer 365 website.
2 GOALS IN 32 GAMES
Thus far, Hyde has delivered two goals for his side in 32 games. Prior to travelling to Burley on a free transfer, Hyde spent seven years at Watford who had signed him from Cambridge for £25,0000.
It was during his time at Watford that he was spotted by the Jamaica Football Federation and invited to help the Reggae Boyz qualify for the Asian World Cup in 2002.
In fact, for some time Hyde was perused by both the federations of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. He eventually decided to represent the Reggae Boyz and would later make his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against Honduras in Kingston, Jamaica, May 26, 2001.
For the most part, the 29-year-old has been a regular member of the Jamaican team although he was left out last year after failing to return to honour a Gold Cup qualifier against Haiti.
He has since apologized to the federation and was accepted once more in the black, green and gold fold.
Burley, with 42 points, lie in 15th place in the 25-team league.
