Harmony, Granville grab last semi-final spots
published: Thursday | April 14, 2005

WESTERN BUREAU

HARMONY OF Trelawny and Granville of St James snatched the last two semi-final places in the Captain's Bakery Western Confederation Super League, after they were awarded points from their unplayed third round games.

Granville, who beat Altobar 3-0 at the Wyndham Rose Hall field on Saturday, got points from their game against Roaring River who failed to show up for their game on Tuesday while Harmony got points from Petersfield whose field was not properly prepared on Saturday.

The two join leaders Seba United and Mt Salem of St James in the semi-finals that will be played on Saturday and Tuesday of next week.

BEST RECORD

Seba United, who beat Orange Hill 5-2 at Jarrett Park on Sunday, ended the preliminary rounds undefeated with 46 points and the best offensive (37 goals scored) and defensive record (nine goals conceded).

Mt Salem were second on 32 points followed by Granville on 27 and Harmony on 26 points, edging out Salt Spring 25 points.

On Sunday, Wilfred Smith scored twice in the second half after replacing Denton Vidal at halftime, to lead Seba United to a big win to cap off the season. Vidal and Kemar Sterling had scored in the first half for Seba while Dale Gillard and Sheldon Anderson had replied for Orange Hill for a 2-2 halftime scoreline.

Smith's goals and a last-minute strike by Anthony Morgan gave Seba United the edge as the Montego Bay team dominated but missed a handful of goals including two penalty kicks, one by Norman Foster in the first half and Smith in the second half.

On Saturday, Granville dominated Altobar as Navado Fisher in the 13th minutes, Victor Gardener in the 41st and Rodney Hines in the 73rd carried them to an easy win.

Meanwhile Lacers of Trelawny, Petersfield and Roaring River of Westmoreland and Tomorrow's People of St James are the first teams to be relegated.

The bottom four teams will return to their respective parish competitions to make way for the four parish winners this season.

Additional teams could still be relegated depending on the outcome of the National Premier League and the JFF promotion play-offs set for later this year.
