St Elizabeth off to fast start in Super Cup

ST ELIZABETH defeated St. Catherine Parish by an innings and 76 runs to secure the weekend's only outright win in the opening round of the 2005 Supreme Ventures Super Cup at Alpart Sports Club.

Final scores: St Elizabeth 327-8 declared; St Catherine 144 and 103.

Howard Powell, 74, Conroy Miller, 58, and Dave Ledgister, 54, scored most runs in St. Elizabeth's innings.

When St. Catherine batted, Howard Harris, 44, made most runs in the first innings against St Elizabeth Technical and Young Jamaica wrist spinner Alton Beckford (5-26).

GOSS DEMOLISHED ST CATHERINE

Forced to follow-on, pacer Ainsley Goss destroyed the visitors by taking 4-30. He was supported St. Elizabeth schoolboy Richard Thomas (2-16) and Miller (2-25).

Meanwhile, defending champions Kensington took first innings from Melbourne at Kensington Park.

Jamaica batsman Maurice Kepple scored an unbeaten century for Kensington.

Final scores: Kensington 232 and 193 for six (Kepple 100 not out); Llewellyn Meggs 2-42); Melbourne 217 (Marlon Samuels 58, Carlton Baugh 27; David Bernard 3-65, Kevin Peart 2-10).

At Nelson Oval: Dervin Morand scored the season's first century, but his team, newcomers St. Mary, lost on first innings to Lucas.

Final scores: Lucas 340 and 115 for three declared (Wayne Gayle 58; St Mary 257 (Morand 103; Ashuman Kentish 3-44) and 78 for three.

At Emmet Park: Manchester took first innings points from home team Kingston.

Scores: Kingston 151 and 292 for five declared (Duran White 87, Gregory Buchanan 75 and Shane Brooks 54 not out); Manchester 228 for nine declared and 57-1.

The game between JDF and St. Catherine CC was not played because the armymen had military duties.
