Community shows on Roots FM
published: Tuesday | April 19, 2005

ROOTS FM has agreed to broadcast live from inner-city communities 'Community Link-Up' shows in Kingston and St. Andrew. Programming will include forums with community members and organisations involved in local development.

The initiative, said organisers, is intended to highlight community success stories, impart basic information technology skills and distribute reading material on issues such as HIV/AIDS. 'Community Link Up' will work alongside the Kingston and St. Andrew Action Forum which is a combined community forum facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme's Civic Dialogue Project.

Rosamond Brown, director of Roots FM said the broadcasts will be made in areas of the communities where people naturally gather. This, she said, should encourage community participation.

The first 'Community Link Up' was held recently in Greenwich Town, and other broadcasts are planned for Maxfield community on April 27; August Town, April 28; Port Royal, May 5; Rose Town, May 12 and Duncan's Pen, May 19.
