Let him enjoy himself
published: Thursday | April 21, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CELEBRATING 70 years is a milestone! As a Jamaican, I am very happy to hear that the Prime Minister celebrated his 70th birthday in fine style his style!

After 40 years of service to Jamaica, we should all join in and celebrate with him, whichever way he chooses to celebrate, as long as it is legal.

Unfortunately, when people offer themselves up for service to their nation, it is often construed to mean that people should have neither privacy nor a life outside of what service demands.

Many of us choose not to offer ourselves up for service to the nation, and as a result, our every move remains relatively out of scrutiny.

Offering yourself up for leadership and service to your country is not for the faint of heart and if you lead a country like Jamaica, then it seems like you definitely need a few 'exhale' parties every other weekend just to maintain your sanity!

Congratulations Mr. Prime Minister! You are a true son of Jamaica and a very decent man!

I am glad that we are able to see you standing in your 70th year!

I am personally happy to know that you can indeed enjoy yourself because I was really wondering if you knew how to. I am relieved!

I am, etc.,
