Burning garbage
published: Thursday | April 21, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AH THE smell of garbage in the morning. The billowing of white smoke is not for the vote of the new pope. This smoke is the fumes of burnt garbage being rammed down our throats.

Yesterday (or the day before), there was another fire at Riverton Dump.

Could it be spontaneous combustion? Is it the work of villainous arsonists?

Whatever the cause, we are being affected. Aside from obvious health risks, it is just plain 'gross'.

To put it lightly, breathing smoke from a garbage fire is bad for one's health. Even if one was to wear a dust mask, the fine particles of waste will permeate the skin and hair.

It is highly likely that this letter will fall on deaf ears, but I still have to ask ... is there anything that can be done to prevent and/or contain these fires?

Is there anything I can do? Awaiting any response

I am, etc.,

AARON JOHNSTON
