published: Thursday | April 21, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA'S UNDER-21 netballers rounded off their last friendly international before the World Youth Netball Championships in winning fashion against South Africa at the National Indoor Sports Centre last night.

As was expected, the South Africans put up a much better showing in a game that ended 40-34.

At the end of the first quarter the South Africans were doing well, tying the game at 11.

The second quarter was even better for the South Africans, who ended the half leading 20-19.

Jamaica began asserting themselves more in the third quarter to lead 30-27 before pulling away in the final stanza.

Young star Romelda Aiken was again the destroyer, as she bagged 36 from 44 attempts for the Jamaicans, while for South Africa, Claudia Basson was their main scorer with 26 from 34 attempts.
