Arnett nab victory over Arlington
published: Thursday | April 21, 2005

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

ANOTHER ONANDI Lowe goal in the 69th minute carried Arnett Gardens to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arlington in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League encounter at the Tony Spaulding Complex yesterday.

The burly striker flashed a header from 12 metres past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Shane Mattis from a Kevin Wilson corner to give Arnett Gardens their second win of the round.

Lowe, now the captain of Arnett Gardens, struck his second goal in two matches after also scoring with a header against Village recently.

Arnett Gardens, move to 43 points but remains in fifth position, and with none of the top four teams able to honour their fixtures, only nine points separate first from fifth.

COACH PLEASED

Michael Tulloch, now the head coach of Arnett Gardens, was happy for the three points and said it didn't matter how they came.

"It's not the classic game where we score many goals," Tulloch said. "Arlington came out fighting to save themselves from relegation."

Tulloch praised Lowe but was quick to point out that the team was not over reliant on him.

"He is really the leader on the team. He is a real professional," he said.

Meanwhile, coach-less Arlington remain on 16 points, four points above cellar team Invaders who failed to honour their fixture at Constant Spring.

GOOD TACTICS

Physical coach Glendel Facey, who took charge of the team, said Arlington played a good tactical game but were unfortunate to concede a goal.

"We stuck to the game plan and started out well but gave up an unfortunate goal and our tempo dropped," said Facey.

Arnett Gardens could have won by a wider margin as Kevin Wilson and substitute Garfield Rinnicks hit the post while wayward shooting from Kwame Richardson, Sean Given and Jonathan Williams also didn't help their cause.

Arlington countered well and looked dangerous on a couple of occasions but the diminutive Locksley Thompson, Greg Taylor and Dwayne Gowe could not penetrate the home team's defence marshalled by Christopher Hayles, Jermaine Benjamin and Marlon Benbow.
