Portmore, Tivoli clash comes to a damp end
published: Thursday | April 21, 2005

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

NICHOLAS

THE MUCH-anticipated clash between National Premier League (NPL) powerhouses Portmore United and Tivoli Gardens came to a damp and disappointing end at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday.

At half-time, Portmore, against the trend of play, held a 1-0 edge over their hosts but a power outage due to the inclement weather will see the game replayed at a date to be determined by the Jamaica Football Federation's competitions committee.

The first half had seen Tivoli Gardens with the majority of the play but they failed to capitalise on their opportunities.

Tivoli were punished for their attacking waywardness by Portmore in the 19th minute when, having conceded a free kick, Portmore's Oneil McDonald laced the ball past outstretched 'keeper Jacomeno Barrett to give the visitors the lead.

Tivoli responded quickly and soon had a free kick of their own but Christopher Nicholas saw his 20th minute attempt denied by brilliant goalkeeping on the part of Edsel Scott.

Portmore United are the league leaders with 51 points and are closely followed by third-placed Tivoli on 48, who must be happy to get another crack at closing the gap.

Waterhouse are second with 50 points.
