Fire damages CPTC studio
published: Tuesday | April 26, 2005

PADDING USED to soundproof one of the major studios at the Creative Production and Training Centre (CPTC) was damaged during a fire yesterday at the Arnold Road, Kingston facility.

District officer Jatinto Thompson of the Trench Town Fire Station, one of the stations that responded to the fire said that investigations so far suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.

Dr. Hopeton Dunn, chairman of the CPTC said the damage caused by the fire was minimal.

"The fire was confined to the studio. The archive, control room and rest of the building are fine," he told The Gleaner last night.

Dr. Dunn added that recently the CPTC had copied all of its tapes and sent them to the National Library for safekeeping in the event of disasters such as yesterday's.

He could not provide an estimate of the damage but noted that repairs will be done swiftly.
