Waste of time, paper, money
published: Tuesday | April 26, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM concerned about the stance taken by some institutions on birth certificates.

This past week, the registration slip 'pink slip' of a child entering some sports competition was rejected. Another child with a white certified copy was also rejected by another entity. They are claiming that they are not valid documents.

Now my beef is with the Registrar-General's Department (RGD). Why are they still issuing the pink slips if they are not valid?

You have to pay for them, mind you, and then fight and claw your way to get the computerised copy.

I think the authentic birth certificate should be given once the birth is registered. Too much time, paper and money is wasted in this present practice.

I guess Jamaica is the only country that has this archaic system.

Patricia Holness claims the RGD is a state-of-the art company, but this is three steps forward and 10 backwards. Wake up Jamaica, time to move forward in the right things.

I am, etc.,
