Residents protest against man's arrest
published: Tuesday | April 26, 2005

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN:

A ROADBLOCK was mounted on the Old Harbour Road main road on Sunday, following the arrest of Ricardo Gordon, otherwise called 'Jah Jah' of Homestead, St. Catherine.

According to the Spanish Town police, the 30-year-old labourer, whom they describe as a don, was wanted for kidnapping, illegal possession of firearm and assault at common law since November last year.

As news of Gordon's arrest surfaced in his community, several residents began blocking a section of the Old Harbour Road.

Due to the quick intervention by the police and military personnel, the roadway was cleared and they have been maintaining a strong presence in the community.

The Gleaner learned that in November last year Gordon allegedly kidnapped the driver of a well-known politician and took him to Portmore, St. Catherine. After the driver was released, he made a report to the Spanish Town Police.

Gordon is booked to appear in the Spanish Town RM Court tomorrow.
