Shipping Association of Jamaica's UTech Award

SIMONE FERGUSON-Treston took the Shipping Association of Jamaica Award at the University of Technology's annual awards function for the Faculty of Business and Management held on Saturday, April 16 in the Alfred Sangster Auditorium.

For achieving academic excellence, Mrs. Ferguson-Treston was named 'Best Full-time Administrative Management Student'. She received the prestigious Shipping Association of Jamaica trophy and a cash prize. She is now working toward being "a chartered accountant with excellent administrative skills".

Mrs. Ferguson-Treston is the third of three children born to Esau and Sybil Ferguson of Delveland, Westmoreland. She is a former head girl of Little London Primary and served as prefect at Manning's High School. While at UTech, she served as secretary/treasurer for Block B.

The Shipping Association of Jamaica has a proud record of support of education at every level and these include:

Being the major sponsor of the Marcus Garvey Basic School in Greenwich Town;

The annual award of scholarships to successful GSAT students;

Ongoing support for the Caribbean Maritime Institute;

The establishment of a chair in industrial relations at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
