J'can hurdlers shine in US

GOLDING-CLARKE

JAMAICAN HURDLERS were in top form on the weekend across the Unite States.

At the 28th annual Spec Towns Invitational track meet in Athens, Georgia, Lacena Golding-Clarke, Shevon Stoddart and Dean Griffith were winners.

Melaine Walker won at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Texas, while Keisha Brown took the sprint hurdles at the McDonnell Invitational.

Omar Brown was also a winner in the men's 200m.

Golding-Clarke, a fourth place finisher at last Olympic Games, raced to a season-best 12.87 seconds clocking in the 100m hurdles.

In securing the world's fifth fastest time this season, Golding-Clarke defeated South Carolina's pair of Tiffany Ross-Williams (12.99) and Ronnetta Alexander (13.45).

Stoddart, another of Jamaica's Olympians from Athens, won her pet event, the 400m hurdles in 58.78. Competing for South Carolina, Stoddart, defeated her team-mate Tawana Watkins (59.79) and Markita James of Auburn (1:00.50).

In the men's 400m hurdles, Griffith won in 50.62 seconds. He defeated Fred Sharpe (50.69) and Eric Keddo of Savannah State (52.09).

SPRINT HURDLES WIN

Meanwhile Walker's victory came in the sprint hurdles at the Hart/Patterson Track & Field Complex, held at the Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Walker stopped the clock in 13.26, four hundredths of a second below her season best. She defeated Central Michigan's Tamara Thomas (13.36) and Rebecca Williams of ISU (13.83).

At the John McDonnell Invitational held at the John McDonnell Field in University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Keisha Brown was also a sprint hurdles winner.

Brown, a former Jamaica Junior, clocked 13.56 to win the event ahead of Tameshia Miller of Northwestern State (13.63) and Beyonka McDowell of Arkansas (13.72).

Also at the McDonnell Invitational, Arkansas and Jamaican Omar Brown won the men's 200m in 20.53.

Kasia Williams, representing Arkansas (24.45) finished behind Juanita Broaddus of Barton County College (23.84) in the women's 200m.

Former Vere Veronia Patterson, now at Barton CC (57.22), and her team-mate TracyAnn Rowe, formerly of Holmwood (57.35) were third and fourth respectively in the 400m dash.

Jermaine Barton, also of Barton, was third in the men's event in 47.36.
