THEY MISSED the hot Easter bun season, but the folks at Continental Baking, makers of HTB buns and breads, reckoned that anytime is a good time for a health bun.
So recently the company rolled out its bran, claiming that now you can have your bun and eat it.
Continental says with the addition of bran, the new bun is cholesterol free, high in fibre, has less sugar and is a healthy alternative to sweeter buns.
Being the cynics that we are, we weren't prepared to take their word for it, so we once again put our busy newsroom staffers to work. Without letting on as to whether or how this bun was different, we asked them to chew on it (Tastee cheese included) and to make their comments.
Then we told them why this bun was different and asked for their follow up remarks. Some people came back three and four times.
Here is what they told us:
THE FIRST BITE
This is something a diabetic could eat. Not sweet. It tastes like whole wheat, very nutritious very good. Something I would buy.
It's too dry for a bun and has a texture like bread -- except it has the raisins, which are sweet so it's not that bad.
It tastes like it has wheat and like they used honey instead of sugar.
I like it.
It's fresh, I don't like it.
It's dry but its all right because it not really sweet.
It's very spicy, distinctly spicy.
It's not sweet, which is how I like it.

It's a good idea to make such a bun. It seems as if it will do well on the market because people are more health conscious. I would definitely buy it.
