JUS' COOL - From the Far East comes Jus' Cool natural drink
published: Thursday | April 28, 2005

Some of Jus Cool products which are made from natural juices. - RICARDO MAYKYN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER

MADE IN Thailand and distributed in Jamaica for the last year through Mountain Mist Farms Limited, St. Andrew, the drink has comes in nine flavours -- tamarind, lychee, mango, sugar cane, guava, pineapple, coconut, hibiscus and aloe vera.

Made with flavoured natural juices, not concentrated, some of the flavours are sweetened with honey and glucose instead of sugar.

Heather King, Mountain Mist's marketing consultant, says, "Jus' Cool is distributed in Jamaica because people are becoming interested in canned drinks and Jus' Cool is an alternative to what is in the marketplace."

Food decided to see how cool Jus' Cool really is, so we asked the staff in our newsroom to comment on six of the flavours.

Here are the comments for each flavour:

TAMARIND

If you like tamarind you'll like it.

Tastes like tamarind.

Tastes the rich flavour of real tamarind.

It's all right very refreshing.

Can taste the tamarind, this is drinkable but has a lot of sugar.

Tastes better than the other flavours.

Smells stronger than it tastes.

I like it, it has novelty flavour

Not bad, tastes all right

HIBISCUS

Tastes like medicine with a tinge of tamarind.

Tastes like grape juice.

It's very good, tastes similar to grape juice.

I like it, it tastes like apple in my mouth and like cranberry when swallowed.

Seriously tastes awful.

Tastes like sweet sugar and water with Kool-aid

Tastes close to vegetable juice.

Tastes too syrupy, I don't like it.

Not particularly nice, tastes like artificial flavour.

PINEAPPLE

Has no flavour. Whatever they were trying to represent they missed it.

I like the juice.

Does not taste close to pineapple.

Smells like downtown on a soggy afternoon, and tastes a little bit worse.

Tastes like pineapple but I don't like the pulp.

It needs more pineapple to give a stronger taste of pine.

Tastes good, but it leaves a staining after taste.

ALOE VERA

Tastes like molasses, don't like it.

I like it.

Can't drink it, it's disastrous.

Poor imitation of aloe vera.

Don't like it, not used to it.

COCONUT

Tastes like somebody just chopped up coconuts and threw sugar in it.

Tastes too sweet.

Tastes awful, if it's being sold for a dollar I wouldn't buy a can.

Lord, this tastes spoil, It this don't taste like coconut water at all.

GUAVA

Interesting refreshing flavour, not overwhelming.

Tastes more like you wash the sediments, doesn't excite my palate.

It's a smooth drink.

I like it, tastes like fruit juice.

Tastes diluted.

Smells nice, not too sweet.

Not too sweet -- refreshing.

Tastes good.

Has a nice flavour.

I like it, it's not too sweet and it smells nice too.
