Thwaites wants to run in Central Kgn again
published: Thursday | April 28, 2005

THWAITES

ATTORNEY-AT-LAW RONALD Thwaites, the former Central Kingston Member of Parliament (MP), wants to represent the constituency again.

Mr. Thwaites, who resigned just before the last general election in 2002 following allegations of impropriety in various business dealings, signalled his intention in a document last Sunday, at the People's National Party (PNP) National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston.

Mr. Thwaites has told the party he is interested in representing Central Kingston where the incumbent is Victor Cummings.

According to the NEC document, Mr. Thwaites also noted he was available to represent any other available constituency.

Contacted yesterday, the noted attorney told The Gleaner he was merely responding to recent party requests for candidates.

"I indicated an openness to discuss a suitable constituency among which could be Central Kingston," he said.

Last year, Mr. Cummings complained to the party hierarchy of Mr. Thwaites' continual meddling in the running of the constituency.

Contacted yesterday, the incumbent Central Kingston MP said he intended to run again to represent the constituency in the next election constitutionally due in 2007.

Among prominent persons seeking to enter representational politics is Senator Floyd Morris, State Minister in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. He is seeking to represent North West St. Ann.

Others are Donovan Nelson, a consultant in the Ministry of National Security, who is seeking to represent North West St. Andrew; Professor Trevor Munroe for Eastern St. Andrew, and music producer Patrick Roberts for West Central St. Andrew.
