
SEALY-MONTEITH
THE MINISTER of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. K.D. Knight has announced the appointment of Mrs. Sheila Sealy-Monteith, director International Organisations Department (IOD) in the Foreign Ministry as ambassador-designate to Mexico.
Mrs. Sealy-Monteith succeeds Ambassador Vilma McNish who is nearing the end of her tour and will be reassigned to the foreign ministry. Mrs. Sealy-Monteith is expected to take up office on August 1.
The Embassy in Mexico has responsibility for relations with Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
Prior to her current post as director IOD, Mrs. Sealy-Monteith served in a number of positions in the ministry including Minister-Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations in New York where she also acted as Deputy Permanent Representative.
She also served as Counsellor/Deputy Head of Mission, in the Embassy of Jamaica, Caracas, Venezuela.
Within the headquarters of the ministry, Mrs. Sealy-Monteith has served as assistant director of the economics division and administrator of the political division. The ambassador-designate has also been a member of a number of UN related committees.
TAUGHT SPANISH
Before joining the ministry in 1986, she taught Spanish and English at Vere Technical High School before returning to her alma mater, Glenmuir High School where she taught Spanish.
Mrs. Sealy-Monteith holds the M.Sc. Degree in International Relations, the B.A. Degree (honours) and Diploma in International Relations, all from the University of the West Indies.
She is married with two children.
