JAMAICA'S TORNADOES Swim Club came up with an admirable 17-medal haul at the recently concluded Stingrays Winter Haven Season Opener meet in Winter Haven, Florida.
The club was represented by the four-man team of Brad Hamilton, 15, Rohan Johnson, 14, Dominic Walter, 12, and Matthew Chen, 11. Together they managed a total of two gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals. The gold medals came in the boys' 13-14 400 metre freestyle which was won by Johnson in a time of 4:38.15 and the boys' Senior 400 metre freestyle which was won by Hamilton in 4:17.16.
Hamilton went on to claim three silver and three bronze medals while Johnson added a bronze and four silver medals to his personal tally.
Walter snared three silver medals while Chen had a single bronze medal.
Captain and Jamaica national squad member Hamilton amassed a total of 61 points to place second overall in the Senior Male Individual Scores. While Johnson, with 43 points, was tied for third place in the 13-14 Male Individual Scores.
The meet consisted of a total of 20 teams and saw the participation of some 281 swimmers. Jackie Walter, coach of Tornadoes and also national coach, was pleased with the overall performance of the team and also saw it as a means of gaining valuable experience.
