Mohammed stars as WIPA XI win Charity Sheild
published: Saturday | April 30, 2005

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Trinidad & Tobago and West Indies left arm spinner Dave Mohammed starred as the Toyota National Invitational XI beat KFC Regional Invitational XI by six wickets in the inaugural FCB/West Indies Players Association Charity Shield match, on Wednesday.

In a game that launched the FCB/WIPA Benevolent Fund, Mohammed took four for 31 for the National Invitational XI as they bowled the Regional Invitational XI out for 150 batting first.

target acquired

The WIPA XI then reached their target for the loss of just four wickets with Aneil Kanhai blasting a cameo 65, including eight fours and three sixes.

Keiron Pollard finished unbeaten on 26 while Trinidad and Tobago senior team wicket-keeper/batsman Dinesh Ramdin scored 14 not out, to steer the team to victory.

rousing start

Playing under lights at Guaracara Park, opening bats-men Looknath Ramsuchit (22) and Leeward Islands' batter Runako Morton (23), had earlier got the Regional XI off to a rousing start, taking West Indies pacer Mervyn Dillon to the sword as he went for 40 runs from his five overs.

The introduction of Mohammed saw wickets fall steadily and only captain and West Indies batman Ricardo Powell showed any resistance thereafter with a topscore of 25.

Azimul Hanniff made a dogged 22 as the last seven wickets crumbled for 51 runs.
