SAYING GOODBYE to those you care about is never easy and two of the more loveable diplomats will have to face it.

German Ambassador Dr. Christian Hausmann and wife Harriet Huber have started their farewell tour as they head back to Germany for early retirement. The couple hosted a reception at their Jacks Hill residence on Tuesday night.

Ambassador Hausmann was almost apologetic as he conceded that many of their colleagues were taken by surprise. Their emotions were two-fold as, on one hand, they were happy to be returning home, but there was obvious sadness that they had to leave Jamaica. He thanked the various entities with whom they had come in contact during their stay, for example the International Proxy Parents, Royal Jamaica Yacht Club and, of course, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

PRESENTED WITH A PLAQUE

"Nothing can match Jamaica. Jamaica has been very kind to us," the ambassador said as his wife nodded in agreement. And with that Maurice Gordon Group struck up the notes of the Harry Belafonte classic "Sad to say, I'm on my way". Hopefully they will be back but not after many a day.

The couple were presented with a plaque from the Jamaica German Society for their unwavering support of the organisation.

Those in attendance included:

Doreen O'Connor; Major Owen Miller; Gerd and Mara Jarchow; Gloria Palomino; Wallace Campbell; Jennifer Lim; Dr. Peter Kolbusch and wife Lawayne; Susan Alexander and husband; Pauline and Loxley Lindo; Col. Trevor MacMillan; George Fatta; Thalia Lyn; Emile George and Pamela George; Desmond Blades; Ambassador David Coore; Pat Francis; Thalia Lyn; Ambassador Dr. Matthew Beaubrun; Glynne Manley; Joseph A.
