Who will explain to his children?
published: Monday | May 9, 2005

THE EDITOR, SIR:

ON WEDNESDAY, May 4, the island celebrated and lauded its teachers. Teachers look forward to being feted and honoured on this one day. For one teacher this day will never be the same again. Gunmen robbed her of her hard working husband and committed father, only because he was a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and they had a score to settle.

A wife is now totally devastated and children including a baby are left hurting. Who authorizes one who cannot create a life to take it? Who will explain to the children what their father did wrong by servinga nation loyally and in so doing paid the supreme sacrifice?

Will Jamaicans for Justice or some other such support group do it? Once again our hidden agenda and careless words have caused "bangarang." When will we be unmasked? Poverty has absolutely nothing to do with this crime wave.

I propose that a total disregard for life, avarice and a set of ground rules that have surfaced because we have rejected morals, values and attitudes are the primary factors. I urge the police force to continue and not lessen their effort.

I am, etc.,

S. WILLIAMS
