Nation should support police
published: Monday | May 9, 2005

THE EDITOR, SIR:

IT WAS extremely difficult to wake up to Wednesday morning's morbid news of the brazen, brutal slaying of three members of the security force by wanton criminal elements. By evening the nation's emotions overflowed on the airwaves, as it is clear that our way of life, our national security, have come under serious attack by deviants of the society.

As a nation we need to come out and show sympathy, respect and wholehearted support for the nation's security forces. One way we can do this is to declare Sunday 15th May 2005 a Day of Prayer in all churches on that day the fallen officers are laid to rest. And, Monday 16th should be a National Day of Support For The Security Force.

A sympathetic people would, on Monday, May 16th, take a stand with the police by walking with a small token of appreciation, a flower, a pen, cards etc to be given to a member of police force on the beat or taken to a police station. Children at school should be encouraged to write a poem, a letter or composition on the work of the police.

Something along that line will be much encouragement to our earthly guardian, the security force.

I am, etc.,

CLAUDE WILSON
