Digicel expands roaming
published: Tuesday | May 10, 2005

DIGICEL HAS EXPANDED its pre-paid roaming service to Ireland. Customers of the regional telecommunications firm were able to start using their cellphones in Ireland from Friday, the company said in a statement.

The latest expansion means Digicel's pre-paid roaming service is accessible in eleven countries.

When roaming, customers can make calls, send and receive text messages and check their balance as they would at home.

"Digicel prepaid customers roaming in Ireland can receive calls from their home market without the worry of extra cost incurred by the calling party," said Trevor Wright, Digicel's marketing communications manager. "The caller pays the same as a local call."

Digicel launched a roaming service for its pre-paid customers early last year. Post-paid customers can access the roaming service in over 110 countries worldwide. This was made possible by agreements between Digicel and more than 200 roaming partners in countries across the globe.
