THE EDITOR, Sir:
ILLNESS DOES not occur without a cause and symptoms are not the cause of the illness. Symptoms are only an indication that all is not well and something is out of balance.
Crime and violence do not occur in a vacuum. They are the end results and symptoms that are indicative that the society is out of balance. They are also an expression of the society's attempt to defend itself, to adapt and recover and to help itself. Causes originate on many levels but are often found in socio-economic needs, lifestyle, nutrition and electromagnetic energy.
When only the symptoms are treated, as in fighting crime only, and the underlying causes remain, the society will often develop a more serious chronic condition of the problems. Symptoms are only relieved by treating the cause.
While combating crime is a must, prevention is the best cure. Fighting crime may be short-term solution but prevention is undoubtedly the best cure for a long-term solution.
Perhaps we should establish a National Council for Control and Crime Prevention. Criminals should be interrogated at the prisons to try and elicit the rationale behind their behaviour. It might interest you to know that nutrition plays a vital role in one's behaviour.
We should also examine our culture to ascertain what, if anything, from it is impacting negatively on our behavioural pattern. Oh! For the many faces of culture.
Culture covers a very wide spectrum of events. You are what you eat and by extension what you digest and assimilate and eliminate. Our culture is what we imbibe. Is our culture in any way impacting on our socio-economic behaviour in such barbaric and uncivilised atrocities of crime?
The development of culture can be likened to the movement of a crab, when endeavouring to move forward, but for the most part is moving sideways.
The road to building a good society is always under construction and like the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
The wealth of a nation is in the health of its society. The health of a society is in its lifestyle, nutrition and electromagnetic status. We are electromagnetic organisms plugged into the earth's magnetic fields, which also influence our human behaviour.
I am, etc.,
