Good job Cecil Donaldson
published: Tuesday | May 10, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I write this letter to commend the former Mayor of Montego Bay, Mr. Cecil Hugh Donaldson, for the remarkable service he has displayed over the years in assisting the development of humanity.

When we carefully observe the outstanding performance of this visionary politician and trade unionist, who has served in such exemplary ways as Mayor and Chairman of the St. James Parish Council on two separate occasions between 1966 to 1969 and again 1975 to 1981, it is befitting to rename the council building "The Cecil Hugh Donaldson Building" in recognition of his relentless service to the development of Montego Bay.

The committed and patriotic Jamaican, who also gave sterling contribution as a parish councillor representing the Glendevon Division for 25 years from 1956 to 1981, deserves not only this present accolade while in our company but serious consideration should be given by the relevant authority to the bestowing on him of a national honour.

Personally, I am of the view that the former Montego Bay Mayor was ahead of his time and was innovative to have acquired such a building of this magnitude for only $950,000 in 1979, knowing fully well the people-oriented purpose for which it would be used. I am certain the Cecil Hugh Donaldson building is welcomed by all Montegonians. This well respected politician has left an indelible mark on humanity, the people of Montego Bay and Jamaica on a whole.

I am, etc.,

VALENTINE PEARSON
