THE EDITOR, Sir:
ONCE AGAIN today, I was presented with even further evidence of the complete and total disregard for driving etiquette that is exhibited by a majority of our public transportation vehicle operators.
While travelling along the northern section of Barbican Square (where the main entrance to Hi-Lo Barbican is located) a JUTC bus stopped for the regular operation of off-loading and collecting passengers. Having done so, the driver proceeded to activate his right indicator, signalling his intention to leave the bus stop and enter the flow of traffic.
At this point, most of my vehicle was adjacent to the bus and quite positively in plain view of the driver's rear view mirror. This, however, did not stop him from continuing to proceed into my lane (the right-most lane) as he intended to continue along Barbican Square as if to travel in the direction of East Kings House Road.
I blew my horn incessantly to halt the driver from proceeding, but to no avail, only to be greeted by the wave of a gloved hand in a manner displaying his lack of concern for any other vehicle. Were it not for my brakes operating at 100 per cent efficiency, I am sure I would have been crushed by the behemoth.
I only wish I had the time to note the vehicle's registration and serial number. I am writing this letter to appeal to the director of the JUTC and the minister to engage in more stringent methods of filtering out the incompetent and uncaring drivers from the lives of both the JUTC passengers and road users. If they are not stopped and punished for actions such as this, they will recur frequently and with no consideration for the repercussions of their actions.
I am, etc.,
