Orville Taylor quits broadcasting group
published: Friday | May 13, 2005

SOCIOLOGIST DR. Orville Taylor, who was recently appointed as chairman of the fledgling Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ). has resigned.

Dr. Taylor, whose resignation takes effect today, spoke of the difficulty of being chairman and "pursuing his own personal career objectives."

Taylor describes the move as a "very difficult decision" given his recognition of the nation-building role that public media have in a democracy.

"My departure from the PBCJ is not in the least likely to have any impact on its progress. At present, there is a small group of committed persons who have been carrying the work forward. However, it is believed that my resignation as chairman is in the best interest of the PBCJ," said Dr. Taylor.
