Jones new Permanent Sercretary in Youth
published: Friday | May 13, 2005

Petrina Francis, Education Reporter

MARIA JONES, former executive director of the Management Institute for National Development (MIND), is the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture.

Mrs. Jones replaced Marguerite Bowie who was Permanent Secretary for a little over 10 years. Mrs. Bowie retired in March.

Mrs. Jones told The Gleaner that it was an honour for her to be appointed to the position.

"I feel privileged given the fact that so much of Jamaica's future and development is thriving on education."

She added that she is delighted to be a part of the reform on education.

Mrs. Jones noted that her work on transforming the education system would be relatively easy because the foundation has already been laid "so a lot of it will be implementation."

"We still have some tweaking to do here and there but generally speaking it is about making it happen," she concluded.
