FALMOUTH, Trelawny:
WITH BOTH coaches harbouring thought of remaining in the Wray & Nephew National Premier League, there was a stirring bottom of the table clash between Arlington and Invaders in which the former edged the latter 2-1 at the Elleston Wakeland Sports Complex on Wednesday.
It was a never-say-die encounter as although both teams are facing relegation, their coaches are expecting strong performances to end the season. Arlington's coach, Everton Foster, said: "Praise the Lord. We wanted this win. We have five games left and winning four will cause us to remain in the league and we are aiming to do that."
Invaders' coach, Orville Brown, was not so optimistic but said: "Even if we go back to the confederation we are eager to be back as we are hoping to start our facility as the lack of an adequate facility is one of our problems."
GOALKEEPER BLUNDERED
Invaders opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Marlon Hewitt's free kick which deflected off a defender.
It was goalkeeper Jermaine Maxwell's blunder which brought up the equaliser in the 61st minute. What should have been a regulation take from a Jermaine Oakley corner was deflected into the goal by the keeper after the ball fell from his grasp.
The winning goal came when an excellent exchange between Arlington players led to a powerful Dwayne Gowe shot which Maxwell had no chance of saving.
