Flash flood warning
published: Saturday | May 14, 2005

IAN ALLEN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER
Curious onlookers yesterday view a section of roadway that was washed away during recent heavy rains in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth.

Break out the umbrellas, there is more rain on the way!

A release from the Meteoro-logical Service issued at 5:00 p.m. yesterday indicates that a flash flood warning was in effect for the island until 5:00 this morning. A flash flood warning means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly. The release stated that an area of low pressure, which yesterday was south-west of the island, is expected to move slowly toward Jamaica. This is expected to result in showers and thunderstorms which may be heavy at times. These conditions are projected to continue through Sunday. Fishers and other marine interests are urged to exercise caution in light of rough sea conditions, especially in southern areas.
