More landlines needed in Epsom
published: Saturday | May 14, 2005

TO THE EDITOR, Sir:

I write on behalf of the residents of Epsom, Fort Stewart, Juno Pen and Enfield who Cable & Wireless in the early 1990s approved under their expansion plan to provide landlines in these areas.

I can recall attending a meeting at Almond Tree, Ocho Rios in the early 1990s where the Cable & Wireless staff gave a detailed report of when the implementation of landlines would be established.

With the rapid increase of cellular phones it seems the company has put 'on hold' plans for the expansion of landlines to these areas. Let me hasten to congratulate Cable & Wireless for their excellent services that some areas of Fort Stewart and Enfield have been receiving from their new cable network. However, at recent meetings in the areas, the residents continue to express their desire to have their home telephones, so they can communicate with their relatives and friends in comfort and relaxation on their home phones.

I would appreciate if you could respond through this medium so that all Jamaicans can become aware of your future plans in regard to landline telephones for these areas.

I am etc.,

VALERIE WALTERS (Miss)
