Police National confident of victory
published: Tuesday | May 17, 2005

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

POLICE NATIONAL are well on their way to the final of the KSAFA/Jamaica National Major League final, taking a two-goal cushion into today's second leg against Greenwich Town at the UWI Bowl starting 5:30 p.m.

In the curtain raiser at 3:30 p.m., Rae Town and Meadhaven do battle evenly poised after grinding out a 0-0 draw in the first leg.

Through goals from Sheldon Campbell and Fitzroy Dewar, Police National carved out an important 2-0 win over Greenwich Town and will be looking to solidify their position and book a spot in the final on May 28.

Calvin Lewis, coach of Police National, said his team would be playing a much better game today after seeing what his opponents had to offer.

"We scored two goals but there are still a couple of things we need to adjust. We have seen Greenwich's strengths and weaknesses and we will be adjusting our game accordingly," he said.

"This is definitely Police's year. We will be making it to the final and we will be lifting the trophy," he said confidently.

In two preliminary encounters, Greenwich Town had the better of Police National winning 1-0 in December and 3-0 in February, so it's not beyond Greenwich to overturn the deficit.

And Lloyd Hall, coach of Greenwich Town, believes that his team still has a chance despite the two-goal deficit.

"We still have a chance to make it to the finals. There is still 90 minutes to go so we just have to play hard."

Meanwhile, Rae Town and Meadhaven are still evenly poised in a game that can go any way. But based on their head-to-head clash for the season, Meadhaven should have the advantage.

In two previous encounters, Meadhaven secured 1-0 and 5-0 wins over Rae Town, popularly known for their 'Old Hits' sessions.

However, Rae Town have shown tremendous late season form and have gone more than eight matches unbeaten.
