ALTHOUGH THEY failed to win an individual section, defending champions Spanish Town retained their overall INSPORTS/Swizzzle-sponsored Primary Schools track and field Championships title at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Naggo Head (111) won the girls' section over Spanish Town (68) while St. Catherine took the boys' division with 98 to Spanish Town's 95. Naggo Head finished a distant back with 36.

However, in the end, despite finishing with 163 points, almost 40 less than what they achieved last year, Spanish Town were able to top Naggo Head (147) and St. Catherine (144).

St. Benedict's (105), Belmont Park (96.5), Angel's (66), St. Jude's (63), Waterford (54), Mona (49), Rousseau (46), Dunrobin (39.50), Bridgeport (37), Ascot (36) and Southborough (32) were the other top teams.

Deandre Whithorne of Naggo Head captured the Class One girls' sprint double in 13.01 and 26.46 respectively.

Her teammate, Cardine Copeland, won the Class Two girls' sprint double in 13.03 and 27.26.

Jovon Brown of Spanish Town won the Class One boys' sprint double in 12.15 and 24.93.

Adam Senior of Ensom City missed out in capturing the Class Two boys' sprint double. He won the 100m (13.03) but finished third in the 200m (27.21), beaten by Spanish Town's Stephen Rose (27.03) and St. Jude's George Fearon (27.08).

UPSET

Meanwhile, the Class One girls' 400 metres was won by Danae Stewart of Belmont Park in 1:02.22. Jermaine Fyffe of St. Jude's upset the field in the Class One boys' 400 metres final by taking gold in 58.77.

Copeland and Whitehorne of Naggo Head and Brown of Spanish Town were awarded the most outstanding girls and boys individual champions for capturing the sprint doubles in their respective classes.

Copeland and Whitehorne were joint Class One champion girls with 18 points each while Rusheen Reid of Naggo Head and Sade McDonald of St. Jude's were joint Class Three girls champions with 16 points each.

Brown of Spanish Town took the Class One boys champion title with 18 points. Jazeel Murphy of Bridgeport was the Class Two champion with 16 points while Senior of Ensom City, David Hall, Rose and Twaine Gordon of St. Catherine were joint Class Three champion boys with 15 points each.
