ARLINGTON UNITED were beaten 3-2 by Reno in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League encounter at Prison Oval yesterday.
The match, which was played before a scanty crowd, saw Arlington taking the lead in the fourth minute courtesy of Dwayne Gowe.
Gary McIntosh of Reno equalised in the 27th minute and sent Reno in the lead in the 41st minute after he dismissed his marker and scored from close range.
Gowe brought Arlington back on level terms after the resumption of the second half, making it 2-2.
However, McIntosh was not satisfied and kept running rings around his opponents to score in the 67th minute, making it 3-2 for Reno and completing his hat-trick.
The game, played on a wet outfield, saw both teams playing a kick-and-run brand of football. The only difference was that Reno scored when it mattered most.
After the match, Reno's coach Carl Palmer said that it was a "shabby game".
However, he was thankful for the win which he says has put his team away from the relegation zone.
"We came here today with a game plan and we executed well," he said.
"McIntosh played well and in any game when you score a hat-trick, it must be outstanding. This has put us on even footing to meet Invaders on Sunday."
President of Arlington Football Club, Everton Tomlinson, said that his team lost the game through a lack of discipline.
"It is very hurtful when you plan something and watch the opposite happen before your very eyes. We spoke of McIntosh, the man who scored for Reno and yet we allowed him space to score, and to add insult to injury, our forwards kept going before the goal and not executing properly and we lost the game.
"We will now have to wheel and come again as we have four more matches remaining," Tomlinson said.
