Spirit Airlines announces service to Jamaica
published: Friday | May 20, 2005

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla:

SPIRIT AIRLINES yesterday announced a new non-stop service between Fort Lauderdale and Montego Bay, Jamaica, starting November 10, 2005 and between Fort Lauderdale and Kingston, Jamaica, starting December 15, 2005.

Spirit will also offer connecting service to both Jamaican destinations from Atlantic City, Chicago/O'Hare, Detroit, NY/LaGuardia, Providence/Boston Area, and Washington, D.C./Reagan National, BUSINESS WIRE reported yesterday.

The flight will cost US$99 each way between Kingston and Fort Lauderdale, the release stated. International fares do not include government taxes and fees up to US$125 per round trip.

"We are delighted to add Jamaica to our fast-growing route map," said Barry Biffle, chief marketing officer of Spirit Airlines. "These flights guarantee visitors and Jamaicans alike can take advantage of our low fares and quality service from our Fort Lauderdale hub. Our new service to both Kingston and Montego Bay reflects Spirit's commitment to become the leading low cost carrier to the Caribbean."

Founded in 1990, Fort Lauderdale-based Spirit Airlines is the largest privately-held airline in the U.S.

"We are pleased to welcome Spirit Airlines to Jamaica at this time when our airport system, as well as our tourism infrastructure, is undergoing major expansion and development," said Earl Richards, President, Airports Authority of Jamaica. "The arrival of this new passenger service is indeed a signal of confidence in the potential for growth in business and tourism between our countries. We certainly welcome the introduction of this new service, which will increase our accessibility and airlift capacity into Jamaica."
