Portmore targets 82 Labour Day projects
published: Friday | May 20, 2005

LEE

THE PORTMORE Municipal Council Labour Day Secretariat has registered a total of 82 projects to be undertaken this Labour Day.

The projects, which are planned by the council along with various citizens' associations and community and civic groups, include drain cleaning, curb wall installation, sign erection and painting, refurbishment of schools and tree planting.

The council recently launched a clean-up campaign of communities throughout Portmore. The campaign includes house-to-house pick-up of household debris.

In a meeting of the Portmore Labour Day Secretariat, Portmore Mayor, George Lee, said that the council is awaiting approval of its request for financial assistance from the Ministry of Local Government to fully expedite the campaign in preparation for the hurricane season.

As the municipality's main project, the council will be refurbishing the Waterford Infant School in St. Catherine. The school, which was badly damaged by Hurricane Ivan last September, is in need of extensive repairs to its roof and computer lab. Persons who desire to be a part of this refurbishing project may contact the Portmore Municipal Council at 740-7440-2.
