OPPOSITION LEADER Bruce Golding has called for a revisiting of the failed Values and Attitudes campaign.
The programme, which Prime Minister Patterson mooted early in his administration, never enjoyed the support of some sections of society.
But speaking Tuesday at the Rotary Club of St. Andrew's weekly luncheon at Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston, the West Kingston Member of Parliament suggested the twinning of the Values and Attitudes campaign with a character-building initiative. The latter was proposed by former Opposition Leader Edward Seaga more than a year ago.
Mr. Golding said the Values and Attitudes and character-building initiatives were needed to help the state wrest communities from the control of dons.
"We need to look at values and attitudes and character education, as to whether we can integrate them into a new re-energised thrust to go into these communities and try to see if we can try to change the thinking and the outlook, and as part of the programme of trying to redeem communities that appear to be lost," Golding said.
