Of races, lovely ladies and lottery

IT IS ironic that the day to get lucky was the day after the (allegedly) unluckiest day in the world.

On Saturday, May 14, guests turned up at Caymanas Park for the Supreme Ventures Limited's (SVL) Lotto Governor's Cup Race Day. Pink and blue were the colours of the day and the ladies were divine in whatever combination they could find. The men weren't to be left out either as they had their own ensembles. Prizes for the best outfit were awarded in both categories.

It was appropriate that a gaming company should take a gamble to go ahead with festivities scheduled for outside despite the daily threat of rain. But, of course, this is May and when the rain did come it failed to dampen the festivities.

OPPORTUNITIES TO WIN

SVL organisers made sure their guests had plenty of opportunity to win something during the day. The easiest was the Spin the Wheel which offered prizes from sports bags to wine. SVL also promoted its newest game, Instant Bingo. Coupons to the Villagio Gaming Lounge (Hilton Hotel) could be won, and all guests also received free bet coupons for the Governor's Cup.

If you purchased $150 worth of Lotto tickets before then, you could fill out an entry coupon naming the winner of 2004's Governor's Cup. If your coupon was drawn then a 29" flat screen TV was yours. Finally, a weekend for two at Sandals Montego Bay went to whoever could produce the best Lotto jingle.

PLENTY OF ENTERTAINMENT

There was plenty of entertainment for guests under the tent. Apart from the foot-stomping, waist-shaking music from Renegades Disco, guests followed the races on closed-circuit televisions. And for those who bothered, watch the worst, er, West Indies lose again.

Energetic dance numbers from the Tivoli High School Dance Troupe, the comedic antics of Apache Chief and Lemon and a 'jiggy' performance from the group Voisemail made for an enjoyable afternoon. Oh, and don't get me started on the food. Dishes from Italy, India, the Orient and Jamaica were in abundance. The sweet treats from Chocolate Dreams were also very popular.

SVL management also handed out Special Appreciation Awards to its Moneygram agents, cambio services and gaming agents.
