Gleaner products are number one! - Command 70 per cent market share
published: Sunday | May 22, 2005

THANKS TO you, our valued readers and advertisers, The Gleaner Company is still the king of all print media in Jamaica!

Information from the 2005 All Media Survey released by the independent research company, Media Research Services Limited (MRSL) shows that the 171-year-old media giant has retained its place atop the contingent of local newspapers. The statistics show that The Gleaner Company's products command 70 per cent of the local newspaper market.

Think that's impressive? Well consider this! The Sunday Gleaner is read by one million people! Yes, a million people every week. This represents a 72 per cent increase in Sunday Gleaner readership from 2002 when the last All-Media survey was done.

The newspaper's management has committed to build on the company's strong showing in the media survey, noting that many exciting initiatives will come on stream before year-end. "We have already developed various programmes to build on our strengths while at the same time delivering on other demands from our readers and advertisers," said Editor-in-Chief, Garfield Grandison.

According to the 2005 All-Media Survey, the Gleaner Company's products, including The Star, the country's leading daily tabloid, came out on top in every socio-economic group with the highest readership in the upper, middle and lower-middle income groups.

What does all this mean? It means that readers buying a copy of The Sunday Gleaner, The Gleaner or The Star at the gift shop at a five-star hotel or from Sister Brown's stall on the corner, believe that The Gleaner Company is the source for accurate and credible information.

The Gleaner Company's products, according to the survey, also dominate female readership in the local newspaper market.

A special thank you to all our readers and advertisers for ensuring that we maintain our dominance in the local newspaper market. We will continue to produce products which are on par with the best in the world. We remain the best news source by far!

Thank you Jamaica!
